The next step is to work on finding more stable housing. This might mean looking for a job so you can save money for a deposit on a rental home, or applying for government housing/allowances.
Making A Steady Income
Modern life requires most of us to have a source of steady income in order to afford and maintain housing. This is why a major step in overcoming homelessness if to find employment. It will also give you a sense of purpose and routine.
Whether or not you are receiving Centrelink payments, your employment consultant is your best contact. They will support you as you look for a job by getting you access to government income assistance in the meantime. Please call them on 1800 062 058 and get connected. They are open from 8:00am-5:00pm Monday to Friday.
Finding Long Term Accommodation

The Department of Communities offers long term living arrangements, food, and clothing for people of all ages. Here are some of the long-term housing options which they can help you access:
Private rental:
You may be eligible for rent assistance from the government if you are on a low income. This can help you afford private rental accommodation. Again, your employment consultant is your #1 contact for all things related to financial assistance. You can find more information on their website or by calling them on 1800 062 058.
Public housing:
This is housing provided by the government for people who are on a low income or have special needs.
Transitional housing:
This is longer-term housing (up to two years) for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness It can help you stabilize your situation and start to rebuild your life.
